NYFC held its fourth annual Educational Conference sponsored by the Neuberger Berman Foundation on April 12, 2012 at John Jay College of Criminal Justice to help high school students in foster care plan for post-secondary education. The conference was a joint effort between NYFC, the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), foster care agencies, and educational organizations throughout New York City.

The Friends of NYFC hosted the Ninth Annual Spring Dinner Dance - New Year’s in April: A Fool’s Fête on April 10, 2012 at the Mandarin Oriental, raising a record high of over $585,000 to benefit youth in foster care in New York City. CD Greene served as the Presenting Sponsor of the event, which, for the sixth year running, sold out before the invitations were mailed. Event Chairs included Allison Aston, Alina Cho, Maggie Cordish, Natalia Gottret Echavarria, Nicole Esposito, Lydia Fenet, Amy McFarland, Clare McKeon, Euan Rellie and Susan Shin and Honorary Chair Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos. The evening featured music by DJ Kiss, decor by David Stark, a silent auction, and youth speaker Peterson Rodriguez.
Special guests at the event included ten young people in foster care who are leaders in New Yorkers For Children programs. Pink Tartan dressed the young women in attendance and Dior Beauty and Frédéric Fekkai provided makeup and hairstyling.

On Tuesday, March 20th, NYFC and CD Greene hosted a cocktail reception in celebration of NYFC’s upcoming Spring Dance: New Year’s in April, A Fool’s Fête. Allison Aston, Alina Cho, and Clare McKeon hosted the evening at BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman. Guests Tinsley Mortimer, Annelise Peterson, Victor Kubicek, Lesley Schulhof, Chris Del Gatto, Veronica Webb, Rory Hermelee, Alexis Bryan Morgan, Gillian Miniter, Susan Shin, Linda Fargo, Nicholas Scoppetta and Susan Burden were on hand to show their support.

North Shore LIJ-Health System Hosts NYFC Network to Success

On January 12th, New Yorkers For Children hosted the Health Care Network to Success event at Lenox Hill Hospital, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, featuring a diverse panel of professionals from the health care industry. The purpose of Network to Success is to empower young people to start thinking about their careers. Nearly 100 young people in foster care listened as the panelists shared their experiences and inspired the young people to pursue their interests.

NYFC Hosts 2011 Wrap to Rap

On Tuesday, November 29th, NYFC hosted the Ninth Annual “Wrap to Rap” holiday gift wrapping event. The NYFC Board, Friends Committee, and Youth Advisory Board were joined by 100 teens in foster care to wrap over 1,200 gifts for younger children in care as DJ D-Nice spun hip hop and holiday classics. The wrapped presents will be distributed by the Administration for Children’s Services to children in foster care throughout New York City.

On September 20th, New Yorkers For Children hosted their 2011 Fall Gala to benefit youth in foster care in New York City. The evening featured dinner, dancing, a special performance by ELEW and a live auction by Sotheby’s Jamie Niven. Special guests at the event included the 2011 Spirit Award recipient, sponsored by North Shore LIJ Health System, Guardian Scholars, and additional youth in foster care who are leaders in New Yorkers For Children programs. The theme of the evening was “Launch A Star”, with décor designed by David Stark.
